Annual Conference

30th May and 31st May 2019

Why Join SSASA?

As we come to the end of 2015, Small Schools Exec would like to congratulate and acknowledge small school leaders for their passion and dedication in ensuring positive outcomes for the children in their schools. There is no doubt that small schools keep producing good learning outcomes largely because of the positive relationships that are developed with students, families and communities.

SSASA understands the role of leaders in small schools, we know you are the people who lock the sheds at the end of the day because no-one else has done it. We know when it comes to unblocking toilets or filling in when there are no TRT’s available –you are the one.

We, as a profession, are undergoing many changes that are encroaching on our role as Educational Leaders and with this in mind we have agreed to trial the support of the SSASA President’s role in 2016 with one day of release funding per fortnight. Remember that all the work (and it is rewarding work) that is performed by your association is done on a voluntary basis.

The President’s job description is as follows:

  • President’s Report
  • Newsletters
  • Communicate with SSASA Exec
  • Meeting with new Small School Principals
  • Press Releases & Media Consultations
  • Liaise with DfE CE, other Associations and attend consultation meetings
  • Prepare & Chair Exec Meetings
  • Actively build Relationships & Communicate with SSASA members

We welcomed SAPPA President Pam Kent to our October meeting and discussed how we could support the valuable work of SAPPA. There is no doubt that this Association is active about the welfare of all primary schools and our support will ensure a stronger voice. However, SSASA is committed to advocating and supporting small schools and your stories, feedback, concerns and interests will help us to do this well. We need to take advantage of the chat-line and use it to share our stories, issues etc. with one another.

Please consider not only school membership with SSASA, but also nominating for an executive position for 2016 of this important Association. You are encouraged to get in touch with any present executive member of SSASA if you wish to discuss aspects of joining and or nominating for executive.
