KEY THEMES FROM LEADER CHATS:

  • An overwhelming positivity and connection to students, families and the community.

  • Lack of leadership density in small schools

  • Aging facilities, lack of money and distance/country location complexities

  • OSHC – workload and regulatory rules

  • Staffing – attraction, retention and housing

  • TRT’s – lack of availability in country locations

  • Money saving strategies all principals are doing but shouldn’t have to

  • Complex kids, behaviour management – lack of support and training for staff dealing with these situations. Small Schools seen as quasi disability support schools. Lack of SSS supports if roles aren’t filled.

  • Building resilience of staff managing tricky kids

  • Wellbeing of self, staff, students and families.

  • System load – mandated reporting requirements without a business manager
